Learn Chinese Effortlessly!

The quickest & easiest method to gain fluency & confidence

No, that’s not a joke, learning Chinese truly can be (relatively) effortless!

I hope you feel excited about your decision to learn Chinese, but I would understand if you also feel some trepidation. After all, it sounds so different than English, and the characters are beautiful but intimidating! But don’t worry, because it’s much easier than it first appears. That’s even more true with the helpful innovations you’ll appreciate in Learn Chinese Effortlessly!

For example, we always supply the:

  • English meaning
  • Latin-letter pronunciation guide (using Pinyin, explained in Chapter 2), with tone markers (tones are explained in Chapter 3).
  • Literal word-by-word translation of Chinese, so you quickly see exactly how things fit together.
  • Traditional Chinese characters (as used in Taiwan).
  • Simplified Chinese Characters (as used in Mainland China) if they differ from Traditional.

    I love you
    Wǒ ài nǐ
    我愛你
    我爱你

These options allow you to focus on whichever aspect of learning you prefer:

  • Read through first to simply understand how things work without straining to memorize.
  • Focus only on speaking and listening.
  • Focus on learning characters for reading and writing.
  • And/or comfortably review what you’ve previously learned.

Learn Chinese Effortlessly! also uses Progressive Sentences, starting with one or two words, and adding another one or two at a time, so it’s always perfectly clear what’s going on. No need for complex explanations!

I love you.
I

I love
Wǒ ài
我愛
我爱

I love you
Wǒ ài nǐ
我愛你
我爱你

You can easily swap in other words to change the meaning.

In short, we make learning Chinese as simple, effortless, and pain-free as possible.

In designing this book, I applied my favorite aspects of the best Chinese textbook I ever used, but which has been out of print and impossible to find for decades.

This ideal textbook design also comes from a lifetime of experience studying and teaching languages.

I’ve lived on five continents, including a year and a half in Taiwan and China, and studied ten languages. I’ve taught multiple languages from preschools to universities and private companies. I earned three language minors and a linguistics area studies certificate with my bachelor’s degree, earned a master’s degree in English, and studied language acquisition and the philosophy of language along the way as well. I’ve published 20 books, with several more on the way. I guess you could say that I’m obsessed with language and teaching.

From all this experience, I’ve developed a very clear sense of the best, quickest, and most effortless way to learn and teach a language. This approach is clear, concise, and self-paced. Learn as quickly or as slowly and comfortably as you like. It’s simple, easy to use, and encouraging!
