Of course youre familiar with Socrates quote that "The unexamined life is not worth living." Then he drank arsenic and killed himself, so what does that say about the examined life?
In telling you that the unadventurous life is not worth living, we are not recommending suicide if you dont have time to climb any mountains or jump off any cliffs. We merely suggest Hey! Start getting your RDA of high adventure!
You should also understand what we mean when we say "Adventure."
High Adventure covers a lot more than the physically challenging and sometimes dangerous pursuits that we talk so much about. Sure, most members of the High Adventure Coalition love those things because they make our lives richer and more meaningful. They clear our minds and open our hearts, they purge us with adrenaline. They change us, and we like the changes.
But weve found dozens of things that are also exciting in life, things that enrich our lives in ways that physical pursuits alone cant supply.
Think about it. Think about your life. What risks have you recently taken that have made you feel good? What risks have you avoided out of fear? Thats what were talking about. Conquer yourself. Conquer lifeor at least its fears. Set high goals and dont let anything stop you from achieving them. Take healthy risks. Become the person you always wished you could be.
Education is another of the High Adventure Coalition's major values. You don't have to go to college to learn--there are numerous books and videos on nearly every subject and many people you can talk to. Know your world. Know yourself. Then change both for the better. The combination of knowledge, wisdom, and action constitute
highest education.
